Specific site, planning and Bunnings Operational requirements informed the bulk and location planning on this prominent site along Queenstown’s Gateway Access road (Frankton Ladies Mile Highway). A key consideration included traffic flow on the site, with a focus on keeping trucks and loading area separate from customers as well as restricted vehicle access limitations (exit only) along the highway.
The nursery, with areas of horizontal timber screening, has been oriented north to ensure good sunlight as well as breaking up the mass of the building. The materials and colour palette have been selected to be sympathetic to Queenstown’s natural landscape, whilst complementing the Bunnings corporate brand. A landscaped bund with specimen trees along the highway frontage provides screening to the customer carpark.
Following a hearing in the Environment Court of NEw Zealand the project was granted approval to proceed.
